Used BMW 530
The BMW 530 has been a stalwart of the 5 series BMW line since 1975 and even though it has evolved into the 535 and is no longer available, it was produced until as recently as 2007. Like any car that spanned 32 years of production, there were an array of models introduced over the years, such as the 530 Motorsport Limited Edition, the 530i, the 530xi and the diesel version, the 530d.
The 5 series originally got its name because it was the fifth of the new cars after the V8 and Isetta era. To date, there have been five different generations of the 5 series – the E12 (1972-1981), the E28 (1982-1988), the E34 (1988-1996), the E39 (1995-2003) and most recently the E60/E61 (2003-present). The 530 model has survived throughout all five generations of the 5 series and was finally retired in 2007 in favor of the 535i. Within the 5 series, there has been a threesome of performance tiers that remains in effect today – the 530 occupied the middle tier of that threesome. The 525i/528i were the entry level 5 series cars, the 530i/535i the mid level of the series and the 545i/550i the high-end performers (at least until you take the M5 into account). The 530i occupied that position for more than 32 years and the 535i now continues the tradition.
As this car has been around for a long time, there are many different motor and powertrain combinations. If you are interested in acquiring a solid used BMW, the 530 is an easy selection and you should be able to find the price point you desire depending on how old of a 530 you’re looking to obtain. Sometimes, your best option when it comes to finding a good priced used vehicle is checking out a local or online auction, so don’t forget about those options. The BMW 530 is a very solid vehicle and you will find many high quality versions available on the used market. Make sure to take the time to thoroughly research the engine and model variations so that you know specifically what year and model you are after. As with any car that has had this long of a production run, there are some that are stronger performing models than others, and it is good to inform yourself of those limitations before walking into a used car lot.
