Used BMW 745

The BMW 745 was one of the premier models in the legendary 7 series. It had a rather sporadic life, as it was introduced in 1982 as the 745i and then went out of production in 1986, but then came back into production in 2002 again as the 745i and also the 745Li (both models featured a 360 hp 4.8L V8) and it was once again phased out in 2005. The Li version was an extended length version of the 745i that provided an additional few inches of backseat room. There was also a 745d version (a diesel engine) along its path.

The 7 series has always been the high-end luxury model series for BMW. Of course, there is still the ultra performance M series, but the M series is generally out of reach for most people due to its high price tags and sometimes limited availability. For many, the 7 series is the peak of BMW performance and luxury.

To get you an idea of whether you should look into the used market or auction markets for a 745i or instead choose to go with a new 750i, you should analyze several factors. First and foremost: pricing and availability. The 745i can be found in the low $30,000 price point for the last model year it was produced – 2005 – whereas a brand new 750i is going to set you back more than $80,000. Now, new is new, but perhaps a four year old nearly identical version only $30,000 might just be more than worth it. If you do decide to go with a used model, make sure to thoroughly have it inspected by a BMW authorized certification center. As the car is now 4 model years old (or more), it is not likely that you’ll be able to purchase a “certified” used BMW 745i, but you still want to make sure that you thoroughly have the used car you have in mind checked out. These 7 series cars are not cheap in any aspect – insurance, operation or maintenance – so you really don’t want any mechanical or structural “surprises” down the road because they might involve a lot of zeros coming out of your bank account. The 7 series is a renowned one and the 745i lives up to the image when it comes to performance, styling and drivability: something all 7 series cars have become famous for. New or used, you won’t be disappointed!
