Used BMW 750

The BMW 750 is a member of the long standing and legendary BMW 7 series of fine German automobiles. The 7 series has been in continuous production since 1977 and has gone through no less than five generations, from the E23, the E32, the E38, the E65/E66 to the present F01 versions. It is possible to order the new 750 in either the 750i or the 750li model. The two vehicles are nearly identical, with minor suspension differences, but the 750li is substantially larger – nearly 6” longer and all of it in the backseat area.

The 7 series BMWs have been around for more than 30 years. This makes them a terrific investment for those looking to purchase a used BMW or even willing to look at an auctioned vehicle. Because of the abundance of 7 series makes and models, you will really need to do your research on the year and models that you are looking to purchase. Motor configurations have varied dramatically over the years, some with more success stories than others, so spend your research time wisely. You’ll find every motor configuration imaginable over the past 30 years – from 3.0L I6 motors, to 3.0L diesel motors, to 3.9L and 4.4L V8s and even 6.0L V12 configurations. Of course, horsepower and fuel consumption will vary pretty dramatically as well. Likewise, you will find different transmission options available, some of them manual. Currently, both models come with a 6 speed automatic transmission.

The new twin turbo V8 for 2009 is smaller but more powerful than the previous motor. It is surprising how fast these big luxury cars can be nowadays, and the 750 is no exception (of course, that doesn’t need that your safety should be neglected: never make the mistake of getting carried away, as your life is at stake). The pedal response, however, is less than stellar, sometimes demonstrating a significant lag and pronounced stomp on the gas to get the desired effect. The long body car is big and roomy, the design and interior layout superb. The cabin is largely calm but the drivetrain has an ever present whine that becomes more pronounced as speed increases. Furthermore, the braking system, while effective, was not nearly as responsive as expected for a car in this class. Buyers may want to consider the S class Mercedes for further refinement in these areas. The S class Mercedes will add another $10,000 to the price tag, but you won’t find some of these refinement issues. The 750 is a very solid car, no question about that, and if you’re looking for a quality used vehicle you will have many great choices.
