Used BMW 760
The BMW 760 is a 7 series luxury performance sedan that has set the standard for the BMW 7 line. The only BMWs that surpass this beautiful sedan are found in the M series and those are untouchable for many people due to their high cost and limited availability. There were two separate models of the 760 – the 760i and the 760Li (a body design that extended the rear seating area a few inches). The 760Li was introduced in 2003 and the 760i made its appearance shortly thereafter in 2004.
The 760i and 760Li both featured the same massive 6.0L V12 powerplant that produced 439 hp and launched the large 7 series to an impressive 155mph top end speed (electronically limited) and 0 to 60mph in a scant 5.5 seconds. While not in line with true sports car numbers, keep in mind just how big the 7 series sedan is and the fact that it was never meant to be a sports car: very impressive! The fit and finish of all of the 7 series cars is phenomenal, and the 760 doesn’t disappoint either.
Any 7 series BMW is going to be a substantial investment, the 760 with its V12 is definitely no exception to that rule. In fact, you’ll likely pay more for a 1 year old 760Li than you will a brand new 750Li (with its 400hp 4.4L V8). This is one of those models where there truly are no current equivalents, as the big V12 has been downgraded to a smaller V8. If the car itself (the styling, luxury appointments and roominess) is what you like, then you will be better off getting a brand new 750i or 750Li, but if the throaty sound of that big V12 is what you’re after, then just start searching around the used market (you probably won’t find something this desirable at an auction) and try to find a gem. The fact is that this car is very likely to be found in excellent to flawless condition and probably lower than average mileage. Also, the 760Li was made produced until 2008, so you can still pick up a dealer “certified” used version of this car if you are fortunate enough to find one. You won’t be disappointed with the BMW 760, whether you choose to go with the 760i or the 760Li for even more room: both of them are an excellent addition to the garage.
